Use one cryptogram a day to challenge your brain and to keep you sharp, or spend a whole rainy day stretching your decipher code skills. Solving a cryptogram is a satisfying experience. Armed with just a few clues to get you started you will be well on your way to becoming a puzzle master.




Clues to help you get started:




I and a are the only one letter words. Therefore, when you scan the coded sentence look for single letters and you know they have to be either an I or an a.

Apostrophes are also great clues. A single letter after an apostrophe will most likely be a T or S. (such as don't, women's) Two letters after an apostrophe could be RE as in you're or they're.

Only a few double letter combinations (BB, DD, EE, FF, LL, MM, NN, OO, PP, RR, SS, TT) are used in regular vocabulary.

Three letter words are also worth a close look. If they are repeated several times in a sentence consider the possibility that they are common words like THE, AND, ARE, WHO, or CAN.

Using the decoder above each sentence makes this puzzle book a cut above the rest. When you have discovered what a number in the coded sentence represents such as 23=B, in the decoder, write the number 23 underneath the B. Then transpose all the 23s in the coded sentence to B.
