Antimicrobial Susceptibility Patterns in South South Nigeria: the Antimicrobial Susceptibility Patterns of Bacterial Isolates from Two Health Institutions over a Five Year Period

Knowledge about the trends in antimicrobial susceptibility patterns in different settings is very important for rational antibiotic utilization. It is very important in areas where empiric therapy is common. Due to the lack of personnel and equipment, bacterial infections are mostly treated empirically in Nigeria, hence, the knowledge of prevailing antibacterial susceptibility patterns is essential. This study analyses the susceptibility patterns of pathogenic bacteria isolated from the urine and high vaginal swab samples, to commonly used antibacterial agents. The study setting was a general hospital and a private clinic in Rivers State, Nigeria.
