Biomolecules: Structure-to-function Relationship: Infrared Spectroscopic, Thermodynamic and Brewster Angle Microscopy Analyses
Gihan Kamel
To understand the structure-function paradigm, this research aimed at investigating the structure-to-function relationship of different biomolecules in an attempt to gain deep insights on the physicochemical properties and different factors governing their interactions as well as their specific biological functions in different environments and with different contexts. To achieve this, multi-discipline studies were elaborated to characterize the structural features of these molecules and relating them to the function. Spectroscopic, thermodynamic, and morphological features were obtained by engaging different experimental techniques including Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy, Langmuir Monolayer and Brewster Angle Microscopy techniques. In such interdisciplinary work, natural biomolecules such as proteins, enzymes, and lipids are of great use to be investigated.
