In the library today, such information services as information collection, processing, organisation, storage, packaging and dissemination are impacted on by ICT. Library automation is the application of computer to library house keeping operations and services and used interchangeably with such terms as electronic library, computer-based library systems. Some studies reported that works in the cataloguing department of automated libraries are now easier as the benefits of automation. This study looked at the automation of cataloguing and classification practices in academic libraries in South-West Nigeria and what influence the automated system have on the libraries. Survey research design was adopted; the questionnaire was used to elicit data for the study. The study found that the perceived needs of the librarie libraries as well as the benefits of automation made the libraries automate its system and libraries will automate its system regardless of the risk involved if there is the availability of fund.
